RMS Students in Pre K- Grade 6 are able to create pottery throughout the year. Basic " hand-building techniques" in the primary grades are explored as students learn coiling, slab, and pinching techniques. This technique can be used for making pinch pots, bowls, cups as well as 2D & 3D creations.
Students also learn about texture plates, creating tiles , using glaze , the history of pottery & the process of drying pottery from air dry to the kiln. WHAT IS THE BENEFIT TO USING CLAY? My students cheer when I tell them is "Clay Day"! Working with the natural element of clay while learning to create a piece of art through exploration of new materials, rolling pins, found objects & getting "muddy" is pretty exciting to kids! Pottery also teaches patience, self-confidence and a freedom of creativity that students love! Here is a sample of these amazing "hand-building" creations. |
